Sir Peter Blake
This image uses symmetry and bold colours to create a visually pleasing image. This image also has quite a lot of vibrance and energy coming off it, due to the blocks of colour and simple design. The uise of block colour works really well, and this style could be used for my final piece for 'MY HOMETOWN' project.
This piece in particular inspired me because I like they way he has repeated shapes and colours, but using different imagery.
I have decided that for my final piece I will create a piece of art design whereby I repeat an image but use different colours, so I shall combine the ideas of Andy Warhol and Peter Blake, to create my own piece of block colour art, or pop art.

Heidi and Emrys Plant - Typography and blogging
Heidi and Emrys Plant work together on interdisciplinary projects under the moniker BLOCK COLOUR. They have been Pin-balling their way through the creative landscape for the past 10 years as artists, designers, poets, lovers and thieves.
I discovered this website 'Block Colour', and decided to browse through the posts and blogs which were about painting and typography. This piece of art (below) was created accidentally when the couple were scraping letters off a wall, and where they were still sticky when they fell, they stuck together and created interesting typography.
This made me think of the typography I could create, so using a letter stamp and ink, I decided to stamp words randomly on a page, but creating the word 'LISS', as this is my hometown.
When I saw this piece of art, I found it interesting and quite amusing as this was a complete accident.

Pop Art - Andy Warhol
I have taken a liking to pop art and the use of bold block colours. The obvious person who sprang into mind, was Andy Warhol.
"Once you 'got' Pop, you could never see a sign in the same way again. And once you thought Pop, you could never see America the same way again."
This image of Marilyn Monroe is probably one of his most famous pieces of artwork. The use of block colour has inspired me to use basic colours for my final outcome to my project 'MY HOMETOWN'. I also like the way he emphasized the colour of the skin and hair to create a more abstract image.
As well as this, I was inspired by the way Warhol used a mixture of colours which would normally clash with eachother, but still managed to create a piece of stimulating and visually pleasing artwork.

Oliver Jeffers
Oliver was brought up in Northern Ireland and now lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
From figurative painting and installation to illustration and picture-book making, Jeffers work takes many forms. His distinctive oil paintings have been exhibited in multiple cities, including the National Portrait Gallery
in London. Illustration clients include, TED, NY Times, Time Magazine, The Guardian, United Airlines, Lavazza Coffee, Newsweek International, Her Royal Majesty the Queen of England, and the Irish Times for which he received the Gold Icad Award for Illustration.
HarperCollins UK and Penguin USA publish his picture books, including Stuck, The Hueys, The Incredible Book Eating Boy, The Great Paper Caper, and most recently This Moose Belongs to Me. Working in collaboration with Studio AKA, Oliver’s second book Lost and Found was developed into an animated short film, which has received over sixty awards including:
The New York Times Best Illustrated Books 2012, a BAFTA for Best Animated Short Film. Picture Book awards include the Smarties Award, Irish Book of the Year, The Blue Peter Book of the Year, as well as shortlists for the British Book of the Year, The Roald Dahl Prize and the Kate Greenaway Medal.
Oliver won a New York Emmy in 2010 for his collaborative work with Mac Premo.
I love the way Oliver Jeffers' simple layout and simple palette of colours are used to create an exciting child's book. The writing looks very much hand rendered and quite childish, but childish in a way that is still readable and neat to look at.
Sara Fanelli - Illustrator
Sara Fanelli was born in Florence, and came to London to study art. She has been working there as a freelance designer and illustrator since her graduation from the Royal College of Art in 1995.
She has worked for many clients, such as Penguin Books, Faber and Faber, Tate Modern, BBC Worldwide, The New York Times and Royal Mail.
The reason why I chose Sara Fanelli is because of her abstract artwork. With the use of bright colours, basic fonts and photomontage designs, she creates interesting and illustrative pieces of graphics design. I especially find 'The Snobs' book cover interesting because of the way she has used ink and an eye from an old photograph.
